MAYOR AARON SIMS ANNOUNCES RUN FOR RE-ELECTION IN MONTICELLO
Small business owner promises continued focus on fiscal responsibility, creative problem solving & historic grant-funded infrastructure upgrades.
MONTICELLO, IN – Today, Monticello Mayor Aaron Sims officially announced his campaign for re-election, pledging to build upon a first term marked by landmark cost savings, record-breaking outside grant acquisitions and a renewed commitment to common-sense municipal management.
A staple of the Monticello business community for nearly twenty years as the co-owner of a downtown Tex-Mex restaurant alongside his wife, Marisol, Sims has spent his first term translating small-business values into concrete municipal results.
“When I transitioned from Main Street to City Hall, my goal was to challenge the traditional, costly ways of doing government business,” said Mayor Sims. “We faced significant challenges over the last few years, but by bringing people together, asking tough questions and respecting hard-earned taxpayer dollars, we transformed those hurdles into historic opportunities for our city.”
Among the marquee achievements of his first term, Mayor Sims spearheaded an overhaul of a state-mandated wastewater treatment facility project, implementing strategic engineering revisions that saved local taxpayers more than $20 million compared to original projections. Additionally, his administration successfully secured a record-breaking $7.25 million in roadway grant funding and an additional $3.5 million via READI 1 and 2 grants; initiating over $4 million in total direct economic investments over the next four years without raising local tax burdens.
The Mayor’s first term was also defined by highly visible community quality-of-life victories. These include the design and execution of four new pickleball courts completed at a fraction of standard construction costs, the preservation and relocation of the local skate park to Voigt Park and finalizing agreements for the first new downtown apartment development project in over 60 years to boost foot traffic for small businesses.
“Our work isn’t finished,” Sims added. “We have laid a rock-solid foundation for future housing, safer neighborhoods, and a vibrant downtown district. I look forward to meeting with residents on their doorsteps over the coming months to discuss how we can continue to protect their pocketbooks while moving Monticello forward.”
Mayor Sims lives in Monticello with his wife, Marisol and their four children: Russell, Benjamin, Aaron and Victoria.
